Intro

The goal of this encounter is to disable the security sytem of the Deep Stone Crypt so the fireteam can progress further inside safely. Guardians do this by working together to lower the shields and shoot the security cores in the correct order. This encounter introduces two reoccuring roles that appear throughout the rest of the raid.

How to Start

To start the encounter, have any Guardian pickup the Operator role from any terminal. This will immediatly close all doors and light the basement on fire. Before the encounter, you can walk freely between all areas of the encounter. It is highly recommended to use this ability to show all fireteam members where everything is, in case of improvisation being required.

Mechanics

Doors

In this encounter there are three different areas, we will refer to these as light, dark, and downstairs/basement. These areas are seperated by doors that close automatically one the encounter starts. The doors between the light and dark side open automaticaly when the shield is lowered, and the doors to the downstairs area can be opened by the Operator.

Roles

Roles are buffs that are transferrable between Guardians that provide specific perks to whoever has the buff. In this encounter are the following roles: Operator and Scanner. If a Guardian dies with a role the role drops on the ground as an item. The item can be picked up to aquire the role. The item despawns after a few seconds if not picked up and reappears on a newly-spawned enemy.

Operator

The Operator role is responsable for shooting various control panels to open doors and lower shields. The control panels that can be shot glow red in the Operator’s view. Note: Glowing red does not mean that the control panel is correct, it just means that the game will react to the panel being shot.

Control Panel

There are 14 different control panels in this encounter. 4 control the path downstairs while 10 are part of the puzzle to lower the shields. Note on the path downstairs: Once the Operator goes downstairs, they are trapped downstairs until they pass the Operator role up and someone swaps with them. This is done in-game by having some control panels deactivate themselves until the two Guardians are fully swapped, with the Operator at the downstairs door and the other Guardian at the top of the stairs.

Scanner

The Scanner’s role is to determine what control panels need to be shot and what order to shoot the security cores in. To determine the correct controls panels to shoot the Scanner can look through the windows in the floor to see the control panels. The correct ones will glow yellow. When the shields are down, the Guardian downstairs can use the Scanner role to see which security core to shoot by looking at the fuses near the terminal downstairs.

Terminals

In both sections of the upper area as well as in the basement there are terminals that allow Guardians to deposit or pickup the roles. All terminals are linked, so a role put in at one terminal can be picked up at any terminal. Terminals can only hold one role at a time.

NOTE: Terminals can be disabled by Servitors, a message will appear on screen when this occurs. It is hightly recommended to kill the Servitor as fast as possible in this encounter, as the disabled terminals will disrupt the swapping of the roles required to complete the encounter.

Death and Wipes

There are multiple mechanics to be aware of that can kill either a single Guardian or the whole fireteam:

If the Operator shoots the wrong control panel or takes too long downstairs the room will set on fire until either the correct panels are shot or the Operator dies.

If the fireteam takes too long to lower the shields the cores will automatically explode, killing the fireteam.

If any Guardian shoots the wrong core too much, it will explode, killing the fireteam.

Recommended Loadouts

Operator

The recommended loadout is a percision weapon (for shooting control panels) like a Scout Rifle or Bow, a percise enemy clearing weapon (for cleaning the basement) like an Auto Rifle, and a Sword. Subclass is Guardian’s choice, though a focus on enermy clearing is recommended.

Everyone Else

The recommended loadout is an enemy clearing weapon, and a shotgun. Heavy machine guns are also useful. Exotic recommendations are the Fourth Horseman with the Catalyst or the Xenophage machine gun.

Recommended Strategy

The recommended strategy is to have three Guardians start on the light side and three Guardians start on the dark side. Do NOT have any Guardians start in the downstairs area, as that will be set on fire at the beginning of the encounter, killing anyone inside. Designate one Guardian on each side as that side’s Scanner and choose two Guardians to be the Operators. (They will take turns being Operator and freeing each other)

Begin the encounter and have the Operator run downstairs as fast as possible. An enemy with the Scanner role will appear on the dark side, call it out once collected by the dark side Scanner. The dark side Scanner calls out the two glowing control panels on the dark side and passes the role to the light side, who repeats the process. As soon as any of the panels are called out, the Operator shoots them as fast as possible.

Once all four panels have been shot, the shields should be disabled (look for a message on the left side of the screen) and the Operator should send their role through the terminal to the other designated Operator. Once Operator has been sent up the Scanner should send their role down so the former Operator can say which security core to shoot.

This is the damage phase, Guardians should focus damage on the security core called out. Use high DPS weapons like shotguns. There will be exploding Shanks, so be aware of your surroundings. Once the core is destoryed, if the shields are still disabled, the Guardian downstairs can indicate the next security core to hit. Repeat until the shields redeploy. Then have the Operator free the trapped Guardian and repeat the whole process. Once all security cores are destoyed, the encounter is completed. The exit is on the dark side.

Challenge

The challenge for this encounter is called Red Rover. The challenge is that every Guardian must do the Operator role at least once. The recommended strategy for this challenge is to have a set order of Operators and pass off after shooting exactly one core. (There are six cores meaning one core per Operator)
